Effects of Moxibustion Apply to a Meridian Point Soo Bun ( CV 9 ) and Sin Soo ( B 23 ) on the Renal Function in the Conscious Rabbits

Abstract
|
|
|
Soo Bun(Conception Vessel 9) is a meridian point in the Conception Vessel meridian and Sin Soo(Bladder 23) is a meridian point in the Bladder meridian.
Moxibustion apply to a meridian point Soo Bun and Sin Soo has been used for the treatment of edema in oriental medicine.
This study was investigated to clarify the possible mechanism of the effects of moxibustion apply to a meridian point Soo Bun and Sin Soo on the renal function and plasma renin activity in the conscious rabbits.
The results obtained were as follows :
1. Urinary flow was increased by the moxibustion apply to a meridian point Soo Bun up to 40 minutes.
Urinary flow was increased by the moxibustion apply to a meridian point Sin Soo up to 70 minutes.
Fractional excretion of urine was also increased significantly.
2. Free water excretion was increased by the moxibustion apply either on the meridian point Soo Bun or Sin Soo.
The response was more effective in the Sin Soo than the Soo Bun.
3. Fractional excretion of sodium was increased after the treatment on the Soo Bun or Sin Soo up to 50 or 30 minutes respectively.
4. Urinary excretion of potassium and chloride was increased after the treatment on the meridian point Soo Bun or Sin Soo.
5. Plasma renin concentration was decreased by the moxibustion apply to a meridian point Sin Soo.
No changes have been found, however, after the treatment on the meridian point Soo Bun.
6. The level of serum total cholesterol was decreased by the treatment on the meridian point Soo Bun or Sin Soo.
7. Blood urea nitrogen and serum albumin showed no changes after the treatment.
